I used to drink with an old shimano service guy at Mortdale years ago, and he told us that the hose is your enemy with reels if your blasting them. Just a quick mist and a wipe, if you blast them you pish the salt I to them

Yeah, would never blast them with water, just gently run the water over them to dilute the salt and wash any sand away, leave them outside for a day to dry before packing them away again. But I do usually pull down each reel every year (or more if required) to check them over and lubricate again.

Worst situation I've seen was in Darwin Harbour. A $1000 shimano Calcutta baitcaster that had been sitting in the bottom of a tinny for over a week, with a salt and sandy slurry get washed all in and around it.

Been camping here ,croc came considerable distance up the beach to attack at night.
Actually saw croc footprints on the beach.
Lots of places in top end not safe for tent camping!
This is a very isolated area.

I spent two weeks in a tent at Cape Don, about 50m from the water. I learnt to pee out through the zipper slightly opened after the 4+m croc meandered through the camp site one night. Or…
After some beers and goon went body surfing on the Tiwis at midnight. I came close to physically vomiting a few days later when a 6+m croc was swimming in the same bit of surf.
They’re a scary animal.

We were fighting a striped marlin offshore a few years ago, estimated around 70kgs. It got chomped clean in half by a shark.😒 Swansea NSW is usually an ordinary fishing destination, except for sharks on the continental shelf. 500 to 600kg units are commonly caught there on wire traces.

Christmas Island is a nightmare for sharks taking your fish - on a bad day they'll get every second yellowfin tuna or wahoo.
Bloody frustrating. Mostly 2 to 3m bronzies. The bastards will also take a trolled minnow, which is fun the first time it happens but not so much after that. A backbreaking exercise just to get your line and lure back.

I've fished Swains reef a few times. Soon as you get a few fish from any location, the sharks take over

Have u guys seen that doco on commercial Spanish mackerel fishing up north where they send up drone and for as far as u can see, all u see is Noahs attacking both hooked fish and empty lures
For every whole fish they brought in they’d bring in 3 halves or worse
Makes u wonder if viable
