if there those round lights you pictured in your other post putting out the purple light they are nothing like spiderfarmer. They have 8 diodes the same as spiderfarmer all the blues and reds are shite Chinese. Diodes. There is not one company that builds good lights with those diodes. Post some pics of them and the specs if you want advice on them. As for power saving. It's not really power saving if your burning 600w then another 400w. The 400w your burning is creating fuck all usable light. You would of been better putting another 250 with your first investment buying 4X 50 dollar useless lights and got an entry level mars or spider that can do a 4x4 using 480w to save power
I see your point for sure now I'm very new to LED my first ones. Thanks for taking the time to help me out and explain I will upgrade later. The 1000 HPS globe is hooked up to a 1000w digital with super also.

So what would your advice be on what wattage to start them on? ballast goes from 600 to 750 to 1000 and then super.

Then what, Watt's when they show their sex?

That's what I have, I'll listen to the expert ;) for advice. You obviously know a hell of a lot more than me about this, FOR SURE

This is the first forum I've really had great advice from. Every one is yelling no about the LED's I have so I'll just use them for veg.

Advice taken I can be pretty thick headed at time!

Wouldn't say I'm an expert mate but tjere are a few guys in here that might show up that are have been studying alot about diodes mainly because I build my own lights to save money. I just k ow those purple and blue o es aren't much good past seed raising and veg. I havnt had any experiance with 1000w I've always opted for 2x 600 hps and a 400 to spread the light out. My hps set was 2.6 × 1.2 with with 600 each end and the 400 in the middle. I just think you'd be burning 400w for not much more gain with the Blurple lights.

Fuck me iI'd just smoked the last of my Lebanese Hash when I wrote that lol. I meant to say some blokes might chime in that are HPS guru's. I've been studying alot about LED diodes to make my own lights. Hope that clears up the last txt lol. Anyway on the train to Paris now

There's heaps of guys on here that can give unlimited info on stuff but I think most r holding back otherwise we will jist end up with a house of representatives all yelling their way is the way. Better off sticking with advice from 1 seasoned grower then 10 not saying anyone is better then anyone else but to many chefs in a kitchen isn't helpful.

I could make some 😁 I can do it easy, with advice. I repair, iPhones, iPads, Samsung devices, PC and laptops and a bunch of other crap. Probably easier to mod the crap ones :ROFLMAO:

When it comes to horticultural lighting, specifically for Cannabis, checkout Dr Bruce Bugbee of Utah State University. He is the man who knows most about this and has a lot of info available. I'd recommend looking at some of his videos on YT (or from Apogee his company) to learn more about spectrum and lighting tech.

Once you understand the basics, then go nuts building. You don't need to SMD work yourself (you can if you really want to I guess? COB was popular at one point for DIY) - companies like Cutter or Grow Lights Australia can stock pre-fabbed PCBs with all the diodes already sorted for you. You just gotta work out the combo of spectrum, volage etc and pair with the right drivers

I've got 2 chinese grow lights that were destined for the tip I rescued off mates that I put quality boards on that kick arse. All you need to know is how to pair them together with the drivers so they turn on. Then you can Frankenstein lights together from parts of other lights for budget builds or buy your components but sometimes it's cheaper to buy a light in that case. Ice got enough drivers to build about 6 more lights I got for 20 bucks each when I bought 12 high bay LED shed lights from market place. This is probably the best vid out there to explain everything

That's an old video from when cobs were the shit. But the same thing applies for any other style, be it a strip or a board. Bridgelux gen 3 is the best bang for buck strips while cutter electronics 404 boards are best bang for buck in my opinion other people will have a different view. The driver is always going to be the most expensive part. Heat sink you can use 6mm plate for the boards or for the strips you can use aluminium shs. I found some used tube on marketplace for my strip light. If you aren't in a hurry you can find stuff over time for builds.if I was home I could take some pics of my Frankenstein set up. I've got 3 board style lights and a strip light to cover 2.6x1.2 . 2 of the baord lights cost me 120 each, that was to replace the chinese junk boards with quality boards on 2 lights mates were going to throw. 3rd cost me 120 for boards 40 bucks for drivers and 25 bucks for scrap 6mm plate(190×300mm) from a boat builder so 185 total and when a mate tested them with his apogee sensor he said they were slightly better than a HLG 300 r spec with better spread because i made them 100mm longer than the HLG which Quick bloom sell for around 700 each. Which is got 3 lights that perform slightly better for 425. The strip light i got 2 meanwell 480 w Drivers for 200 on marketplace and 16 strips from cutter for about #320 , which if I done it again would use the Bridgelux gen 3 for half the price but use same diodes. The tube i can't remember what I paid on marketplace but me being a tight arse would have been cheap. I only used 1 of the drivers so that light was say 500 bucks for the light . If I used the gen3 it would of been about 100 cheaper. So for the whole tent $900ish. combined they can put out around 1400w. But i can only run them at about 960, above that there to strong for that area and bleaches the tips. When I get back I'm building a new grow room 3 ×1.5 that when the lights are spread out and turned up will cover it easy. It's not for everyone but if your patient you can build lights that stand up to brand name lights but the bonus is if they fail you can replace components easy instead of buying a whole new light.

I pulled a cheap china light apart to test because the driver said 36-95v so I can try work out, what they produce, I'm confused on how to calculate it... 68DCV
I put a picture of the cheap ass driver and a video of the voltage. It's supposed to have LM301H LED's they run at

225 LED's

Wattage 0.2 W, Forward Voltage 2.7 V
How do I crunch the numbers boys? to see what they are putting out

Remember I'm brand new to LED's, I hope this stops other people getting screwed over lol 😁

Please help, so I really know how crap they are!

Mate seems ive been mistaken. Those aren't the led I'm thought you had. The shitty ones I was referring to was the round ones you put up a picture of in another thread that had 8 wgite diodes and the rest blue and red.and I done the old assume makes an arse out of you 😆. They will work just a matter of how long for. Check the connectors on the input lead if they have a joiner. That's usually the part that catches fire. Sometimes they just twist the wires together. With that driver you can run a board or strips up to about 85v. It just doesn't have the Amps on the driver so you can't calculate watts.can you test how many watts they are drawing then can work out the amps.

Awesome mate, those are for extra light 😁 "8 wgite diodes and the rest blue and red" I ran 12 of them "8 wgite diodes and the rest blue and red" once they worked but shitty buds!!

That's why I'm trying these ones they run very cool, when I get a 9v battery for my temperature gauge I'll post them to. Taking light back apart to measure amps and get the amps (y)

I check all wiring and solder, I was surprised it didn't look like it was soldered by a 5 year old as I've seen before in cheap china products, it looked decent to me...

See the bars they are attached to? I accidentally dropped them when hanging they slammed into the wood table top! I thought FUCK these are totaled, but they still fucking worked to my amazement 🤣

so all they put out in light is = 60.52 watts? has to be more than that in light "light lumens" ? they are very bright! it said 60w on the box so that is right 😁

Yep they are underpowered, not completely useless though for growing seedlings and a few weeks veg.

My 100w light at 100% only puts out about 60000 lux about 6 inches from the tops, and people would argue that wasn't bright enough. They lack the penetration needed for flowering.

Just a guess but your light might be lucky to do 40000 lux at 6-8 inches from the tops, even if you had a proper canopy of buds, you'd be lucky to get 3-4 inches of good bud, the rest would mostly be larf..

You have to atleast have 30w per square foot (480w for 4x4) minimum and those lights combined only put out like 300w, 40w would be even better (640w).

I did a test with lux meter on phone, the LED's are shit 39000 so I plugged in old magnetic 600w hps to compare it has 620000 it blew it away.

So ripped out all LED's turned digital HPS up to 750w, like mentioned by other members, will do tent temp test tonight and see how many lux, oh and fitted reflector.
