Started trenching today. Had to use a pickhoe to smack this shale like shit that was some kind of concrete which was used to make some footpath at the side of the house (this was right next to that tree which I cut down on the neighbours side) up against my real slab the house is on

About a meter through my trenching I hit a hole and saw about 6 termites crawling about. Looked up and noticed a weatherboard looked off and my finger could easily go through it, like paper.
Got the fipronyl granules and threw them in the trench, tomorrow will drench it.

Now I think this could be pretty fucking bad, it appears they could have gotten into a stud or something, and have proceeded to make their way into some damp weatherboards. I don't know for sure how fucked it is until I tear the weatherboards off.

Gotta be optimistic about this. But I'm worried that they might have traversed into the ceilings. And there is no crawlspace up that way of the house, the only way I will know for certain is to take some roofing sheets off.

I don't care about the weatherboards too much, but the structural parts is a big worry..

Stay tuned

Ouch.

Sounds like they been there a while.

When you disturb their trails in a house they seem to get angry. Make a ticking type noise. When you can hear em that’s when ya got real problems.

Saying that, if you haven’t literally disturbed heaps of them falling out of a trail perhaps they have already been treated.

Just put my ear to the wall 20 mins ago and didn't hear anything from that effected area on the outside.

I hope its just mostly from water damage. Seeing as I can get my hand through a weatherboard I might aswell just pull it off with a few others to inspect the structure. Might fork out for some vinyl cladding if the whole structure isn't fucked.

Roof needs looking at, new gutters etc. time to burn some cash

From my experience in Cairns they always go straight up into the roof . Had Masonite walls and could see the trails under the paint. Fuckers were hard to get rid of . Some DH stuck a cupboard against the outside back wall in the laundry . thats how they got in and under the slab . Sold the house and ran away:sneaky:

My dad renovated an old farmhouse and they were eating timbers soon after.
Was a lot of concrete slabs on the project and pest controller found them living everywhere underneath.
So a major effort of drilling and pumping poison under Neath.
Another place we worked at of some wealthy South Africans.
They bought in many large logs to build retaining walls around stables and arena.
A while later I noticed white ants on the walls.big bastards.
Got in pest controller and he said they'd bought in a particularly bad type of termite in on the logs.🙄just recently my son was there with excavator and pulled it apart and burnt it all.

What a nightmare. Heard they love eucy mulch, I have no clue what wood the weatherboards are made from but really want to have a look behind them.

All these years we have been termite free.
I reckon neighbours bought them in their firewood. Recent rains and bad storage (on soil) seems like prime conditions in the soggy wood.

They are the 'suits' type of workers who buy firewood. Fuck me dead, seal off the chimney and chuck a gas heater in there instead.

I reckon there should be mandatory courses for people on how to store wood properly. The shit they get looks half green and here's me wondering why it smells like ass and smogs the whole block up.

At the end of the day the blame game won't get me far. Me turning a blind eye was part of the problem, should have been onto this when they first moved in.

On a more positive note I drenched the trench I carved out, 24ml to each 8L of water (filled 4 buckets) and did about 15-20 feet up against the house where the tree was buried under our slab.

Now I go under the house and trench as far as I can, will be able to do 10 feet at a time with the electric sprayer I have bought.

Highly unlikely you’ll move a nest and queen with a load. They’re everywhere. My place treated, “excessive” warranty payout 🤞, regular inspections, I can still find them within 10m, mostly abit further from the house. Bar total nuclear extermination they’re part of life in Australia.
I’d pull some boards, see what timber is used for framing. As said before tap around and look/hear for anomalies. Also a shit weatherboard could be just avenue to exotic timber morsels. I’d also consider looking at ceiling timbers in area of detection. Again I’ve seen them eat and die enmass eating through toxic plywood to access tasty timber. Inspectors also chase them with thermometers, random mould moisture patches in walls or ceilings are signs.
Good luck, remain forever vigilant.

Bit by bit, atleast I know one of their highways from the fence has been treated, so anything that passes the barrier will waltz on through and hopefully does some damage to the colony.

Will pry some of these weatherboards off first to inspect for tubing and munched wood

Not keen on getting on the roof until I check behind the weatherboards for tunneling, don't want to fall through the roof so going to have to be careful

Another update on the situation.

Got up on a ladder today and clawed the rotted weatherboard out. Hit a nest which had been abandoned.

Pulled the window/weatherboard trim exposing a gap, which had mud tubing running a few meters up to the rotted weatherboard. Went around to other windows and pulled a few, noticed bit of rot at the ends of the boards but apart from that it looks fine.

Got an endoscopic camera online, which I put up into the roof to inspect for any signs, I couldn't see anything bad but still going to take a few roof panels off to be sure.

So I've put shit back together and got underneath the house and I couldn't believe what I found.
Some cunt had dumped a fuck ton of asbestos underneath the house at one point and that concluded my journey beneath the house. Wasn't going to fuck around rolling around in dust any further, managed to get a good look at half and it looks fine to me.

Who the fuck would throw asbestos beneath the house though honestly. One extreme to the next..

I have another question about this situation your in with the fences? is that even legal fence back to back? I've never ever seen this before! what are the rules with your local council, it will screw with block sizes, normally both parties have to agree before hand don't they? That is what I've been told, I could be wrong!
They should pay for any issues!
