'Clandestine' magic mushroom lab in Sydney apartment uncovered

The largest alleged magic mushroom lab ever found in an apartment by NSW police has been dismantled.

Detectives have charged four people and conducted seven search warrants after an investigation into an alleged criminal syndicate manufacturing and supplying prohibited drugs across Sydney, NSW police said.

At 8:30am yesterday, police stopped a vehicle in Sydney Olympic Park and arrested two men, aged 45 and 30.

The older man was charged with 10 offences relating to “the supply of large commercial quantities of drugs”. The younger man was charged with four offences relating to “the supply of large commercial quantities of drugs”.

At 9.30am, detectives arrested a 28-year-old man at a cafe in West Ryde. He was charged with supplying a prohibited drug in an indictable and commercial quantity.

All three men were refused bail to appear in Burwood local court today.

At 9.50am, detectives searched a Pyrmont property and discovered a “clandestine laboratory” producing psilocybin (also known as magic mushrooms).

A 45-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and charged with five offences relating to “the supply of large commercial quantities of drugs”. She was refused bail to appear in Downing Centre local court today.

Search warrants were also executed at Oatlands, Campsie, Epping, Rydalmere, West Ryde and Pyrmont. Police seized “a large amount of prohibited drugs” including 100 bags of magic mushrooms.

Running a couple experiments trying to streamline my shroom growing. I'm using Sorghum. I'm testing the no soak no simmer tek, first 2 have 900g grain one with 600ml and one with 650ml of water. Straight in the bag sealed and in the PC. 90% of the grain can be squashed with your fingers with a decent amount of pressure. I have 3 more in the PC now with 700ml 750ml and 800ml. I will see which bag colonises the best and use that recipie, fingers crossed because it's way easier and more motivating knowing you don't have fuck round soaking, cooking then sterilising. I also have about 500g of grain left I'm going to try same thing but put the bag in the microwave, I'm wondering if the heat plus microvaves will scramble the contamination, ill report back in a week or so20250228_155221.jpg20250228_155219.jpg

The amount of steam in the microwave experiment bag and on amount of it boiling profusely in the bag. I'll be quite shocked if there is anything alive. This is after 3 x 5 minute bursts. Bit af a shake up in-between. Wear a oven mit it's like lava.20250228_170115.jpg

I’ve yet to try bags but I’m thinking I’ll give it a go too. Just for the simplicity of them.
Where are you putting them to fruit? Under lights?

I use the bags just for spawn, I still put them in totes to fruit. I moved to bags because of the simplicity, and also I can get 1kg in each bag and I can fit 3 bags in the PC , so I can do 3kg worth of grain/ rice in one go. Then using the shoe box size totes i get 4 totes out of 1 bag, and I don't have to worry about washing jars etc. I'm just trying to streamline line it all

Update on the microwave bag is NO, the grain is still rock hard and there is zero mycelium in the bag

So im calling this method a huge success, 9 days to fully colonise the 600,650,700 ml water into 900g bags and the 750 and 800ml look to be a couple more days, but the ratio im calling the winner is the 700ml bag, it's been ahead from the start, so that's 900g sourgum unwashed un cooked just straight in the bag with 700ml water sealed and pressure cooked for 90mins. This has shaved off alot of rooting around. Made the process far more streamlined and motivational, in the past I've been put off by washing cooking then bagging and sterilising because of the extra time needed from my time poor schedule, this is 2 minutes prep and into the PC,20250311_104020.jpg20250311_104032.jpg

Different strains do different things, that's why i just stick to this fucker it's very aggressive and very forgiving, i struggle with other varieties but this one (Taz) is almost fool proof
