Yes, Old Fox, It is a variation of Malawi Cob technique.
I read about it on another forum.
Google Tangwena, he was the guy that made this cobbing so popular. It now has a worldwide cult like following.
I only followed the instructions/hints that I read, none of it is my tech.
I've still got some 3 year old Malawi stashed away in a glass jar. It's a very nice strain, but I can't justify 17 week flowering period. Lots of other stuff nowadays has been worked to finish in 10-11 weeks, which are just as potent, and occasionally better. Cooper , a previous member on this site taught me that a longer flowering strain is not necessarily more potent than a shorter flowering strain ....as long as it's picked in its own harvest window. I totally agree with that.

They definitely aren't for everyone that's for sure. I like an old-school sativas as I find it a better smoke for day use, camping and hiking. A more mellow stone in my opinion.

Some of the heavier hybrids these days render me completely incompatible with most menial outdoors tasks and it's embarrassing.

Most of me mates are in the "why spend twice as long growing something that looks like bush" and I totally get it. It's something I hold onto for a while and squirrel away as it doesn't have much bag appeal unless you have an eye for a time past.

I think a lot of the allure for me is nostalgia and a longing for a simpler time of which my first smoke was a product of, and one I miss dearly.

I agree with 1 statement to a point which is time frame

The bag appeal is sensational , the smell like any other well grown strain will be powerful

The smoke, a good landrace sativa doesn't get you stoned it gets high

A few hrs later you'll be couch locked

The theory that sativas allow you to function as normal is a wife's tail , hard to function and get things done when you high as fuck

I can understand the reluctance to grow indoors, but given enough space they will reward you with a much bigger yield

And yes , in the end they are as tight as any indica just much bigger

Imo there's a difference in being stoned as fuck to being high as fuck

I like the glue on my hands as i trim. I roll and rub it off every now and then and end up with a lump of charas. Its actually how they make hash in some parts of Asia. Sometimes I make oil from plants for edibles and I use this technique to get charas from it first, I just rub and squeeze the buds all over and rub off the sticky stuff on my hands.
