ok thanks gents

I have read some the posts on SF2000 but clearly not enough of them - it was recommendations (eg Pikey in 2022 on a newbie post) that I was looking at but I’m guessing I’ll find something negative about most kits if I search long enough

So ye wouldn’t recommend any kits for under a grand?
I'm perfectly happy with my mars hydro kit. Things might break quicker and some quality of life issues like the noisy exhaust compared to expensive ones. There's a reason they are cheaper.

Having said that, if I was buying again I might get a better exhaust fan but aside from that it's fine. The tent is sturdy and it came with everything e.g. ties etc. My experiences communicating with mars hydro have been fine (asked for support for how to assemble fan etc.).

I haven't read anything compelling re fire risk, but for me that was the biggest factor I was considering in whether it was worth spending more. I saw a few Reddit posts of older models, but even things like MacBook chargers have many reddit posts of them overheating/melting.

I dunno - like many things everyone debates about, most of us see too small a sample to make any meaningful conclusions. If I knew it had xxx% fire risk, I could decide if it's worth spending $xxxx. As it stands, things like 'quality' can't be easily quantified.

Maybe don't try be self sufficient at this point but aim for savings. If you live in a unit it will cost a couple grand for a self sufficient set up to get 24 oz a year without any experiance .By the time you spring for odour controll etc living in a unit. so I'd be aiming to just halve or better your costs of enjoying a toke and not reinvent the wheel to start with. I'd go a 2×4 setup that way it can go against a wall in the corner and carbon filter and fan will need to be minimal. Either way initial layout will be around a grand

Maybe look into a cheapish 2x4 tent on ebay. Big enough to grow 2 decent plants in.

Pair up a HLG blackbird LED ($400) with a 4 or 6 inch Phresh or AC infinity exhaust fan, includes free postage from forum sponsor Quick bloom lights, and you'll get $75 off with TSE discount code if you spend $700 I think. All top quality. No fire danger and Aussie based warranty. Any change left grab some matching ducting.

Save up for a carbon filter down the track closer to flower. grab a couple of cheap circ fans and youre on your way.

Don't waste ya money on a humidifier not needed at all!!
Ya guna use the ac fan for intake or extraction?
Use the money for the humidifier to buy and intake or extraction!
See how long ya use such an expensive very small tent for!
Personally I'd go a cheap tent to start with!

thanks porky!

will drop the humidifier and buy a fan for intake.

I was thinking based on what i've read that i'd use the fan for extraction however happy to be guided by yer experience/advice.

size of tent more to do with what i reckon i'll grow (personal use only) and i've read the 2x4 is better layout than others for placing stuff inside - gorilla appears to be strongest option cause plenty of critical comments on less expensive tents from crappy poles/connectors to poor fabric/zippers etc. but again, happy to be pointed in a better direction!

Look Gorilla tents are awesome but it's a lot for a small tent! If like growing which I guarantee you will you will probably want to go bigger so you may only do a few grows with it. You could just get a cheap small tent and use the money elsewhere.
