Hah, now that's an idea. However, buying and moving a gas lift bed doesn't look fun for me.

At the moment in a 1bdr flat with my partner. It's a very small space and all existing fixtures are in use. A tent would fit - but it would not be discrete. If I could keep it that simple I would.

I know there are plenty of ways to go about this - and appreciate the suggestions - however, the brief is definitely needing something a bit more flash. If I can re-use something I will, but very much think I'll custom build as per the CAD I've worked on.

I've had a look and found a few cabinet makers who cut veneer mdf to order which solves a major hurdle for me. The rest I can get from Sausage Barn and other places nearby.

The lights from Kingbright have been shipped - if they arrived before Feb, I might still get time to run a grow before I travel. Otherwise it'll be a work in progress for a bit with perhaps a test run
Has it got a balcony or small yard? you can pad lock and chest freezer and fan noise is not odd to others, unplug on inspection.

Just remember to write DEAD BODIES on the top 🤣 (y)

What did you get from King bride. I get heat sinks off them and found them to be the better of the chinesium componants. You can get heat sinks off them for Quantum boards for about 20 bucks v 140 here. Shipping is 70 bucks but if you buy 4 or more it's still 1/4 the price
3 x Kingbrite W55-L560mm Led Grow Bar Samsung lm301h with XPE2 660nm+730nm+LG UV (PCBA and heatsink)
+ rails to mount
USD 131.67 shipped

Each PCB + heatsink = 30 USD ~ 50 AUD

I've bought their stuff before and it's been pretty good. I find dealing with them direct via whatsapp and Alibaba gets a good deal

If you've never heard of Space Buckets, you should do some googling. Lots of creative ideas for growing discretely in small spaces. This will get ya started ....
https://spacebuckets.com
Yeah I'm familiar - but way too janky for what I want.

This isn't just a question of "how can I grow some weed plant in a small space" situation - that's part of it, but there's more as stated.

Space buckets and all that kinda thing, while sure, would work, are not the kinda thing I'm wanting. I've got the gear to do things properly, I don't want to go all cheap ghetto ass shit from 10+ years ago. I want to do things nice and with the skill and knowledge I got from fucking around with this stuff since at least 2012. I'm getting too old and having too many other things to juggle to be mickey mousing things. I want to do this right

Any thoughts on if I should apply thermal paste between the PCB's and heatsink? Kingrbrite don't do this by standard. Unsure if it is necessary - but seems like a good idea. I'll be running these at bellow their rated max - Kingbrite advise running these boards at 60w, max 70w, but I'll be at 50w.

Haven't bothered on the other strips I have bought from them before, but seen it mentioned elsewhere with regards to DIY builds and peoples opinion of QAQC of manufacturers etc. Cheers

It won't hurt, I'd use thermal tape instead though, less mess 👍🏻

Don't use the past it runs when it heats up. Use that tape Goonie posted. I use it on my builds and don't even use screws.

It runs? Damn yeah ok that's not good. I've never seen that when using it on CPU's etc - Arctic Silver stuff. But that's a fairly small amount and probably not at such temp... I was kinda preferring to do it that way as I can just grab it locally from a PC store.

Maybe I can find the thermal tape locally also... but yeah I can order from cutter also

Should have mentioned Jaycar sells thermal tape. They also sell big tubs of cpu paste.

I used the stuff from jaycar on a large quantum type board and it ran out and dripped on my plants. I may have used the wrong shit it was white in colour

Oh ok - weird. Sounds like it might have been some other sort of thermal paste.

Arctic Silver is fairly viscous - once it's been heated it normally gets firm and bonds (not permanent) between the heat source and sink - ie CPU and cooler.

I found the thermal tape at Altronics and another place nearby - but even getting some 100mm strips shipped wasn't too bad. Can cut them down.

I'll have a think about it
