Every few months I make a 4 gallon batch of chilli. I put in some Thai birds eyes, jalapenos, ancho, guajillo, chipotles and 2 carolina reapers but I switched the reapers out for 20 habaneros.

The reason being the reapers have a bitter taste whereas the habaneros have a fruity/capsicum taste. So the heat level is the same, just without the bitterness.

A client gave me some chillis from their plants last year. Kept the seeds and planted this year. First time growing them. Seems like every single seed sprouted haha

Not sure of the varieties. One is your thinner Asian style chilli and the other is more like your habanero.

The 25 Birds eyes I started ID have now been out in the sunshine for a couple of months, along with a single Habanero (back-right). All hydro in coco/perlite, hand-watered from the IBC in the background.

The ones in the foreground were topped & the ones behind were left to their own devices.

The ones un-topped have started producing flowers & fruit & the topped ones are struggling to keep up. The Jury is currently out whether topping chilli plants is actually a good practice or not.

There's one gnarly fruit on one of the un-topped plants, which could be a cross-pollination from the Habanero, so I'll keep an eye on it & see how it goes.

The Habanero itself is producing quite nicely so far:

Erm... Yeah, Bubba Kush & Wonder Woman mother plants have been put out to pasture & are right up the back..

I'm now thinking to start some Super-Hot's whilst the temperatures are good for germination & keep them going inside over winter, take clones & get them ready for a bumper harvest next year.

They look great. Wish I could grow them in pots but everytime I try they just go to shit, same with capsicums

Yeah, they're finicky plants. I was only able to get ONE Habanero out of dozens of seeds that I started.

The Super-Hots are notorious for being difficult, which is why I'm planning to get things going now & see if I can keep them going ID until next spring.

I love jalapeno bottle caps as a beer snack.
I had them the first time at a California beach front pub.

Slice sideways like little bottle caps and then dip in flour batter and fry in hot oil on the pan.
Serve with a dipping sauce (mayonnaise base). Crispy little chili bites, so good.
You can take the seeds out after slicing to reduce heat a bit if needed.
