Bummer to hear that, mate. Back in the 70's we'd grab a holiday home at Kurrimine for a week at a time that backed onto forest, and pretty well every morning there'd be a couple that would pass through. Strangely enough, they were quite placid and didn't mind you observing them going about their business.

We got lucky one year, where a male cassowary bought 3 of his young chicks through, i even got to follow them through the scrub for a bit at a distance. Upon reflection, it was a pretty stupid thing to do. I guess i got lucky. Quite a fond memory i must say.

They can still be found easily enough in a few places, Etty Bay has very friendly ones. Here's one thats known for stomping noisy, agro little dogs.
