HAHA, yep, I'm sitting on 42TBs at the moment, once the price point of 12TB drives hit a good level then I'll swap out them all out, 8 SATA slots and a couple of m.2 slots plus a few old SSDs should put me above 100TBs, that should be enough for the next few years.

Don't worry about that, I've been doing it since 2004 and used to run a couple of torrent sites with a few American mates many years ago.
They were all on edge because they live in a country where they can easily get sued, but in Australia the AFP came out years ago with a statement and basically said "if you're just downloading stuff to watch at home then we've got better shit to do, if you're downloading it to burn to CDs and sell at the markets then that's what we care about"

So basically, they don't care and I've never had a problem.

Damn man thats a lot, I'm sitting at 15TB atm, I recently lost a 1TB external drive that i picked up cheAP from a mate I should have known better it had been knocked around its entire life before mine and I shouldnt have used it but it was still a massive blow to loose just 1tb out of 16tb at the time. My dream PC would be a rack storage server with raid but that wont happen unless I win lotto lol

I was pleasantly surprised by the drop in m.2 prices. Just picked up a 2tb m.2 off kogan for $140 a few days ago. It's just a 2400/1750 3.0, but for $140 I'm chuffed. It's only for games anyway ATM.

I hear ya, externals break easy if you're using them to download torrents because of the constant read/write punishment. I've lost a few over the years because of that.
One of them was a LaCie 2TB external back in 2007 I bought in Hong Kong when I was over there. It cost around $1000 at the time.
And now were sitting here talking about 4TB M.2s for $200

What I did to solve the issue was configure my server to download to the SSD and then once I've watched it I back it up to the internal HDDs, that way there's only one write to the HDD and less punishment, therefore a longer lifespan.

I didn't even know what a terabyte was in 2006. Was an 80 and 160gb hdd back then and rocking a Pentium 4 HT 640 and GeForce 6600GT at that time. Even that was pretty exxy back then.
