Torrents are still used regularly. These days you don't get CAM versions of movies and stuff because people got sick of watching movies filmed in a cinema with a camcorder.
These days I RSS everything so qbittorrent auto-downloads any TV show I'm interested in without me having to do anything. All 1080p quality. No issues at all over 15+ years.
Legally they can't do anything because it's a civil matter so just ignore the warning emails, however the last one to send me one was TPG and that was about 6 years ago. Deleted the emails, nothing happened since.
Yes they did somehow successfully sue iiNet but that was years ago and it was because they were complicit in file-sharing by enabling their customers to do so, which is absolute shitfuckery.
This is exactly why I think we need a Technology Court, where the judges are versed in how stuff works so they make the right judgments.
We already have Family Court, Drug Court, Judges who are experienced with troubled juveniles, etc.
Google got sued and lost against a dude who was written about in a small blog from a random stranger, saying he was loosely tied to the Melbourne crime families (Morans, etc). He said it was defamation, yet he didn't sue the person who made the website, he decided to go after the company that has money, and is a search engine.
And he won, What. The. Fuck.
