Firstly, I must agree with others who have said it depends on the source of the pain. Not all pain is the same, although some medicos seem to have the idea pain is pain is pain, it's all the same. It's not. And nor should the treatment be 'one size fits all'. I was trialled on the oils (both CBD only and CBD/THC oil) but they didn't benefit me. I was also trialled on a CBD bud, it was OK but not my 'key'. What works best for me is a THC/CBD hybrid bud. Some will say 'Ohh, this is best for pain...' and sure for them it may work wonders, but will it work for you in the same way? Probably not. I have a few differing strains/forms (bud/hash/tincture) I rotate through, so that my system doesn't get too normalised to a strain.

My 'friend' pain has, yet again, set up residence in my skull. He's trying to bash his way out via my forehead.
Opiates are my 'go to' (primary) pain management tool.
I also use canna medically. Is it a pain killer? No. But it lessens my focus on nothing but the nauseating pain. When all you can concentrate on is PAIN it's exhausting, it's like it's feeding the pain, just to be able to divert the mind from it is a relief. Another plus for me is that it helps reduce my intake of opiates. And increases my appetite.

But, Is it a pain killer? No.

I made infused olive oil with my lower buds and trim but decarbed it in the oven beforehand (Some Shamans, mystics or prophets may even refer to this method as 'Activated Cannabis' 😂). One thing I noticed was my headsplitting migraine vanished about 10 minutes after ingesting a few drops. Strains I used were Critical Mass and some dosidos crosses. The Critical apparently has a bit of CBD in it. I actually thought most Autos were naturally higher in CBD due to their ruderalis lineage🤷..

I just want to say I'm so sorry Merlin, for you and everyone else suffering from severe chronic pain on this forum. I imagine it would just suck the life right out of you.

I wish I had something that would help or soothe. I hope we make some sort of medical advances that help alleviate the pain in the near future.

Thanks Junglelover,
Me TOO!!!!! :cautious:
I have another appointment with the neurosurgeons next week. Their plan is to cut a fuckin big hole (4x6inch) in my skull and go fishing it out. This will be the 7th time they've gone 'fishing', and it may deal with an issue, but the after effects are SUPER nasty.

Merlin has some good points. In addition to pain emanating from different health issues, I suspect our minds perceive pain differently from one person to the next. A pain that is no big deal to me, might be mentally consuming to you and vice-versa. My experiences with pain doctors is that they aren't good at understanding this. In my case, the THC and/or CBD is quite helpful with the physical pain. But, it is also very effective at helping me ignore and forget about pain. When I mentally concentrate on pain, it takes time away from day to day tasks. I don't think I would be working a full-time day job and then running a small business at night, if I didn't regularly use cannabis....

chronic pain is a nasty **** . Ive tried all the drugs they dont work. they do help in a way by distraction more than anything. some people get lucky i guess and find a drug that works but my experience is that its a bit hopeless.

I could easily join the conversation, but I will limit it too: "It will save your life if it doesn't kill you"

yep or you get told 'It's all in your head...' like, "tell me something I didn't already know" OR My 'favourite' "Ohh, it can't be THAT bad...."
I 'try' to mix'n'match my differing smokes: oils, buds, hashes, tinctures, to meet my needs. Don't get me wrong I still find I need an opiate but at a much lesser dosage.

There's a bit of 'science' going on about this at the moment. I'm part of a rare conditions network in the U.S. and Europe. We've got members who are having blood and DNA tests to refine and micro-manage their medical treatments. Presently, treatments aren't often focused on the individual but rather a large population. Paracetamol for example is marketed to everybody, but there are individuals out there who can have a toxic reaction to paracetamol. Some medicos work on a 'one-size-fits all' model and that paradigm is s.t.a.r.t..i.n.g. to change, s.l.o.w.l.y.

Lots of treatments are a case of hit'n'miss. The dr says 'here try this medication'... ...'ohh, that didn't help? Try this one instead...' and some of those treatments can be super nasty in their side effects. So the scientists are refining the medications/treatments down to act of specific genes for that specific individual. I have some medications here that are combination meds (A+B) and this med is sold as an A+B combination, but me personally need more 'A' in the combination than is sold at the chemist. I have found a compounding pharmacist who will make up my combination specifically for me.

Now, my example is not DNA derived although it was partially via blood tests (and lots of trial and error and error and err...) but it seems some specialist services are using personalised biometric testing as part of their initial consultation more often, especially for more complex cases.

Agree. I suffer from chronic pain due to nerve damage via surgery 10 years ago. I was on oxy for 6 months and it totally fucked with my head.

My doctor was telling me I may be on it for life. I was zoning out driving and doing all sorts of fucking stupid things. Went cold turkey which maybe was a mistake but got off it and just learned to deal with the pain. It come and goes. I find getting stoned and occasionally pissed is a nice distraction from it.

I’m in the health care industry. If I’ve got cancer you can fuck off with your edibles,I want a fentanyl lollipop 🍭 for a start, no fucking please or thank you. Pot is for recreation, and I’ll have that too.

I've got oxy's here by the boxful. I 'try' not to use them. If I'm knocking them back, I need a hospital. Those things wipe me out.
I've got some lesser opiates as my 'go to' med. If they don't work, I've got an issue. If I use oxy as my 'go to', when my pain is extreme, I've got no way to manage it. I use oxy as my 'Big Guns'

I agree with Sun Ra in regard to the 'Distraction'. I haven't been pissed for a L.O.N.G. time, but in that time I've collected up a nice range of bourbons and liqueurs (I collect tins (& wizards), many of the tins still have their contents.
I can feel a distraction coming on 🤣 :eek::sleep:

I think a lot of pain is due to inflammation
So if you can find anti-inflammatory treatments that can help.

If you blend cannabis oil with other oils that have anti-inflammatory properties that could be worth a look.

Things like calendula, Californian Poppy’s,
Or adaptogens like ashwaganda, medicinal mushroom etc.

I don’t practice what I preach though and have back and shoulder pain a lot though I found those things to help.

Maybe a combo of cannabis salve and tiger balm would work 😂

Totally agree, a lot of pain is an inflammatory reaction BUT not all pain. And many medicos treat it all as the same and it's not.
I think your idea of 'a combo' is the only way because what may work wonders for you, maybe of bugger all use to another. I think the question is whether you can get a medico to grasp that reality.

When I hurt my back it was Ginger and turmeric tea and Nettle tea . both are anti inflammatory . I was so sore I couldn't turn over in bed but the tea sorted it and was back at work in 2 days. There is a turmeric users group on facebook . they feed their animals the same mix. group was started by a vet
