Hey yall
I am in the market for a step up in lights.

I do prefer Autos ( Questions)
Would this HLG 30 UVA be ok to use on its own just to kick off girls for first 14-21 days of veg before flowering steps in??
Peace out

No. It's a supplementary light used to finish flowering. Not really suitable spectrum for veg. Cheap led on eBay, say between 60-100 true watts, would be better option for 21 days growth Even a blurple will suffice for veg.

You want to use UV supplement lights the last few weeks of flowering for a couple hours per day. They are meant stimulate resin and THC production. But they are potent and would burn the heck out of your plants if used 12-20hrs a day. Might outright kill a seedling. I got a little enthusiastic with mine and turned my top leaves crispy the first run. Go easy....

Yeah a mate did the same he had his on for 10 hours a day!!
He settled on 6 hours Max!
Personally I couldn't tell the difference between the UV and non UV buds!!
Have you noticed a difference mate?

I have the California Lightworks UVB. There is lots of conflicting marketing info about UV lights, but I settled on UVB sounding the most promising. I've had one run with it and am about to hang it up again soon. 2hrs at about 18" was too much. Dropped back to 1hr. On that run I got somewhat inconclusive results. The reason being I had a potassium deficiency that I mistook for magnesium. Thus I had a rather poor yield. However, the buds are potent and sticky. I haven't run those strains before, so kinda hard to compare. Really needs two runs (UV and no UV) with clones to be certain. I'm going to keep using it, because I have it and costs very little to run. I think its something to play with, if you've run out of other gizmos to spend money on!

I've also heard suggestions that the UV can help prevent molds and mildews. Scorches the nasties. So I'm also considering it as part of my IPM. Never had mold and don't want to....

UVA up in the more visible spectrum of 380-400Nm can be ran 12 hours throughout the complete flowering stage. By no means am I claiming it improves anything or thats how its meant to be done. I think the HLG 30 watt UVA lights are designed to be mounted down the centre of a HLG 600watt.

I run 25watts of UVA 395Nm from flip no worries. (330 watt light in 2 x 4)
Its the 25watts of IR thats my concern with stretch.

UVA between 315-380Nm would need to be managed times through trial and error.

UVB (below 315Nm) seems too much of a risk and is harmful to humans

Well that's the end of that light for Autos....Your advice is heeded.
God old Bunnings is all I have here so bit restricted to products and nutes

Question ..... Does Bunnings have a suitable t5 or similar to hover over girls for germ to 3-4 veg before puting out side.
Any advice be 😎
Update.
Home made some to keep wind rain and nasties away while we have the damp weather
Am I doing things right??

I reckon you need to do a bit of internet shopping. I’m in the same position,my local hydro shop is Bunnings too. There is an aquarium shop that’s handy for ph&Ec pens and ph up and down, that’s it. I use Mars Hydro light and tent. They send it free. They have a 100w light for about $100,no dimmer tho. I just bought one during the Black Friday deals. Does 60x60

This is not advice as I haven’t used these, but others may be able clarify if this would be an option…? Search at Bunnings for

Ledvance 60cm 6.5W 650lm Day Light LED Batten

You can daisy chain as many as you need together to use one power outlet. I have a couple 1200mm on the ceiling of the garage and they are good general purpose lights. I was at one stage thinking of putting together a bank of 3 or 4 of these for seedling stage as only $18 each. I ended up just getting a Viparspectra XS1500 that was $198 that gives more options to extend veg time if needed. Mine are also moving outdoors shortly.

Like I said, not sure if the output or spectrums suit what you’re after…. They are at Bunnings though 😁

Even look at cfl options. I’ve kept clones going with a four split cfl ( actually two blown globes) and even vegged for a few weeks. But you would need to keep it really close to the plants.
