Thought I’d start a thread where we can share articles, news, and insights about the potential legalization of recreational cannabis, along with open discussion and debate. Feel free to post relevant articles or join the conversation!

Tried to phone into that bastian of conservative thought, radio station 3AW this morning but they refused to put me on air as it didn't suit their narrative. I was calling in response to a bloke they took a call from who said he's only tried marijuana a few times over the years but each time - about 6 months later - he's had a seizure, once while driving. He blames it on his use cannabis and said it shouldn't be decriminalised or legalised in his opinion due to his personal experience.

I told the person screening the calls I was ringing in relation to this and wanted to say two things - one, that I have used gunja for 45 years without incident or side effects during which time I held a highly responsible job in the Commonwealth Public Service and secondly that the Pennington Institute did a report into Cannabis use in Australia in 2022 which found 37% of the population (7.8 million people) had tried it and 11.5% had used in in the previous 12 months and that laws that criminalise that many people need to be looked at. I also said that once, not long ago, homosexuality was outlawed in this country - where we have 3.5% of the population identifying as gay. As I said, they wouldn't put me on air as it didn't suit the negative narrative they were running.

debate or discussing alternatives won’t get u a mic mate, yer better off taking the complete piss and going so hard in the same direction that they actually go hold on, that might be too far, for example forget about MC driving laws, should we be taking about deporting those bloody weed smoking hippies that are a nuisance on the road and causing all these seizures taking up hospital beds???

The only time I see it happening is when the Government can make tax off it. They will if they make money off it, but how?;)

Sales tax is how just like fuel and smokes and alcohol
Possibly licensing as well ? There's no such thing as sales tax anymore - it was replaced by the GST.

Tax on booze and tobacco is called "Excise".

If booze and tobacco rates keep dropping and it's nearly in every movie and many T.V shows and is more socially accepted now. Maybe they will let sale of it in supermarkets or bottle shops and other place with an age limit. Who knows! :ROFLMAO:

That article is a year old .

Anyway it’s not new news that many thai politicians want it regulated only for medical use ,

The last bit about if it’s worse than alcohol and tobacco it should be banned ,and if it isn’t ,they should ban alcohol and tobacco
is total nonsense ,,just shows how ignorant Shinawatra is.

Edit Shinawatra didn’t say that ,it was the last prime minister said it ,,,stupid ABC quoting old news as if it’s current ,

Thailand is going to RE- criminalise cannabis at the end of this year.

Bullshit.
They've probably seen how much money the weed industries makes over here and decided it to copy it.
Cut the small guy out and force people to fork out for telehealth appointments and overpriced scripts to line everyone elses pockets except the small guy

Many hands are being greased with our current "medical" system. Despite criticism from many saying that scripts are being handed out like candy - or too easy to get.

Yep that's just the way it is in this country i guess.
I think new patients here need some written documentation from GP's as proof just so the companies can cover their asses later down the road.
I think maybe it was due to some young bloke who did himself in, they went down the psychosis/schizophrenia associated with marijuana/substance abuse road as usual, and how easy it was for the 'mentally ill' to get a script.

Thailand went ahead and gave their country too much freedom by freeing the plant, now the suits realise how much $$$ they are missing out on when compared to the bullshit system here, so of course they're gonna rip it away from them. Saying more kids are smoking weed etc, ok then 🤣. They will copy our "medical system" 100%..

Done a 180 on this after seeing guys come out of Defence, get on high % THC and then end up in psych wards in that order.

Unpopular opinion, some people even without prior mental health issues, do not react well to THC. That gets compounded by Drs prescribing 25-30% to first timers. There should be a hard cap on limits for the first 30-60 days. 5% THC 15% CBD or something similar.

Conversely at the top end of experienced medical patients, should be be easier to navigate cultivars within certain %. The pantomime of pretending one 26% cultivar is so magically different from another that it needs a new script is ridiculous.

Only problem with that idea is that short term tourists won't be able to access medical canna as easily as the current set up and I'd think cashed up tourists would be a big part of the market there.

No doubt weed can cause paranoia and anxiety, i am pretty familiar with it after taking a long break, and can only say that northern lights is the only strain that hasn't freaked me out since.

I think another issue is the fact that most doctors will dismiss anyone with panic disorders / ptsd needing sedative drugs like benzo's, valium xanax etc and end up making patients jump through hoops to get them or try putting them on other new wonder drugs. So they probably try to make a change to weed (feeling like they are wasting the doctors time) but the weed makes things 10x worse.

Then there's the people taking antidepressants and all sorts of other pills along with weed. In that case i could believe that the mix could cause some type of psychotic episode. But the weed will always be the substance which they blame for it.

There's been reports of antihistamines like Phenergan making people see and do extremely weird shit on some strange kind of trip, like people who talk to brooms for 3 hours and others who see the carpet swirling around until they realise whats up.
God help them if they had any traces of marijuana in their systems, then to be plastered a substance abuser, psychotic and schizo on medical records if hospitalized. Maybe even a few scripts of prozac and antipsychotics on top of that.
