Worth watching if you’re in the area. All the models have switched to a 24+h stall just off shore. Could even finally cross on Saturday morning. Not going to be pretty, and in some places really ugly.
Beach erosion, coastal flooding, severe rainfall, dodgy builders, building codes, stickybeaks etc.
I feel for Lismore. Rain fall after crossing could be extreme.

Strange weather indeed. Humidity had dropped drastically today. It's only 62% outside here atm and room is 52%...ita been more humid the whole summer which is odd..

Still no gusts over 30kph today and have had some nice sun today as well..no real rain. If you average out the 30 something wind stations from BOM In seq, the average is only around 20-35kph sustained so far.

Very southern side dominant is Alfred. NSW taking most of the impact. You can see the eye opening right up on radar this arvo so I reckon it'll fall apart fast over Brisbane. Dont want a repeat of 2022.

seems like a lot of carry on for fuck all, north queensland gets worse and not a mention nationally
Tell me about it mate. It's crazy how angry people are getting when I suggest there's a public hysteria side of this due to rewards from social media engagement.

It's always "why would the government and news lie though"...like come on now. That's pretty much all they do.

Considering nighttime always stalls everything a bit due to the lack of convective energy, and if the humidity around here stays like it is I reckon it'll deteriorate faster than expected.

Still Gunna be hundreds of thousands of properties without power and some serious loss of livelihood from the flooding though if the rain does become a serious issue.

At one stage certain forecasts were calling for possible steady state winds of 90-100kph and gusts of 130 and up in Brisbane metro areas by now. Now it's looking more like 40-60kph winds with heavier gusts here tomorrow and there even if it does move northwards, possibly less if it tends south.

Lismore looks likely to flood, possibly through the shops, hope the levy holds. Three peaks on three creeks converging, Bentley, Wilson’s and Terrania. Long night for them, plus up to Sunday.

I agree it’s been hyped but damned if they do, damned if they don’t.
Some of the evac orders my phones been receiving surprised me, but they are now unfolding.
I understand how the get their headlines, but it’s a twisting of the possibilities.

Yeah but Nth Qld is supposed to be built to withstand cyclones whereas Brisbane and Goldie, not so much.

It's like the new obsession with calling anything over 10mm rain forecasted a "devastating rain bomb" and plastering it everywhere.

Problem is though, when we keep crying wolf, people generally stop listening over time and thats the worst case scenario.

I'm all for warnings and preemptive measures but when it's constantly blown out of proportion and pushed into hysteria from social media users it turns into a bigger issue.

The word rain bomb was so overused by the media every time a slight shower was forecast that most people just roll their eyes now and just turn off which could create an even bigger issue when one actually comes. The reality is that we have data and actual statistical analysis of the wind projections available but people would rather repeat social media nonsense regarding possible 200kph winds and board themselves in a shelter with 1k worth of dunny roll than actually look at weather mapping and the circle continues. And I don't think that's healthy at all.

I think people are immediately jumping to the conclusion that I'm saying the cyclone isn't a problem. But that's not my point at all. I think teaching people the ability to sum up the reality and context of a situation by looking at actual data and statistical projections is a more reliable path than just blowing everything up on social media so the lowest denomination will listen and have a man in a suit tell us to be scared.
