In theory it makes sense and sounds great. But i couldn't see too many farm hand/s happy about learning that they got something else to work around in the orchard. If they want off set their usage, set up the solar array in a separate part of the paddock like most do already. Why add more expense to the system by running cables, etc.. across an entire paddock?

Another point, as a old farm hand myself. I've seen first hand what damage tree roots do to a irrigation system. It'll make it interesting when/if the roots grab hold of DC cables.

Hmmm, it's one of those things that the more thought you give it, the more impractical it appears. It's amazing what shithouse ideas can be thought up from an air conditioned office space..
