Smart meter

Energy mob asking if we wanna update 2 smart meter for free
Anyone know much about em ?
Only use low powered lights every now and then

Had them at a couple of places over the last 15 or so years. Gave me no strife in that time.

I think they're primarily for load shedding, if your area's demand is loading up the local network, they have the ability to shut off A/C's, Pools, Hot Water etc.. if they're linked up to the Smart Meter. Worst case scenario, switch your whole house off, and restore it when they got it under control again.

If you can, probably best avoid the change over, mate. They don't need to know more than what you want them to know.

That said, I could have it completely wrong.

fuck no apparently they charge for "apparent usage" not "actual usage" like the old/usual meters do

arnt the smart meters meant to have a sim card in them that transmit the reading and other b/s every now and then?

IIRC, they have the ability recieve a signal. Not sure about sending them though.
