i am starting to think about an indoor grow space in my shed.
Design stage:

Tossing around the idea of using a second hand cool room. What do you think? Pros / cons etc.
No real details other than thoughts atm. Water in/ water out , Air in/ air out and bright. Lol.

Any pointers or suggestions appreciated.

Coldroom would great if considering doing a enclosed grow or CO2. If it's already erected. throw a digital thermometer in there for a day or two and see what temps and humidity you're looking at in there.

I haven't done a coldroom grow myself, primarily due to potential humidity/mold concerns of my own. But others in Oz have not had this sort of dilemma before and have successfully achieved good trouble free growing

I stuffed up there.
More the panelling only, then screwing a box together.

sort of a ghetto cold room. Lol.

way out of my budget for the real mcoy. i have seen used half decent 50mm cool room panels for just under $20 meter.

would sort of work out comparable to a large tent in both size and costs I thought. A bit more work involved, but i dont mind that.
i was sort of thinking that the boxed panels would keep the grow cooler than a tent in a hot shed ??

Not sure of your location, mate. But i'm north of SEQ and I've actually come across a coldroom made out of 50mm in a shed, and the heat can still radiate through 50mm paneling over the period of a day. So there's something to consider.

A small air con i guess. Is there a cheaper way?

How is it done in a tent? I sort of figured it would be the same??

Is air exchange only enough for a large tent?
Lots of question marks. Hahaha.

This whole thing will be a learning process for sure.

Mate my girls 9n flower in my tent have handled the heat much better than my outdoors

You just learn how to cope , I actually think it's cooler in tent then outdoors

Need a big tent , and the exhaust would have to be at least 1 .5x the power/watts/ rating of the aircon which would render it useless on normal operation, too much power usafor normal household fuse/circuit breaker

A closed system is the best option but again not practical for average Joe

Im practically growing in a cool room, but they're not cool room panels and Im not in Qld.

I got some 60mm fire proof foam panels, foil covered both sides, stuck that shit inside a chipboard frame basically.

Inside a little garden shed, yet ducted fresh outdoor air in, (passive) and the exhaust ducted outside, making it totally independent of the sheds climate. If you got enough fresh air running through it you'll be right. Exhausting and intaking air from inside the shed not ideal.

Like you said, cost much the same as a decent tent yet far better insulation against the extremes.

Not sure i follow on the technical side re the 1.5 x power/watts etc.

Indy mentioned an ‘enclosed grow’. Now you a ‘closed system’. huh......lol

Yeah yeah. Good stuff.
sounds interesting. Any pics?

Legit dieing to get myself on an old cool-room to set up in my smaller shed, theoritically would be the best environment to play around with regarding temps and humidity

If you were to do a purpose built shed in the northern end of the country. It'd be worthwhile to seriously consider using anticon (R1.5 or better) to insulate at least the roof, northern and western sides of the shed (naturally its best to insulate the entire shed if possible). Also, use the required amount of whirly-birds for the size of the shed built.

These two alone goes a long way to combating the radiating heat that can consume a grow area over the space of a day. Under normal conditions (excluding heatwaves) this could drop the shed temperature by as much as 5-10C, it doesnt sound like much, but it can be the difference of plants surviving, or going toes up.

Buildings that absorb heat are a growers nightmare.

I’ve looked at cool room panels too.
Thought of getting the deepest Bunnings garage shelf, lining the panels inside the corners. Make a door too. But I think marine ply and insulated lining will be easier.

Look for broken cool room trailers. Could always convert that into a grow room

The fringes of Brizzy Indy.
in the heat of summer a breeze and an open roller door should help drop the temps. i get ya with the radiating heat. Im drying plants in a shipping container this season. Crisp in 3 days........sigh.....lol. 1st world problems. Hahaha.

Not sure on the closed systems Mick. Im going to start with what i know.....(which isnt much ) :) And that is waisting heaps of water with coco DTW. :(

Good info with the anticon etc. cheers. sure would be nice to have some sort of blanketed shed roof. Would cut noise/dampen storms etc too no doubt. A double whammy. They are so loud in bad weather. Fucking scary. Lol.
Not so sure on the whirlybirds yet. They need a winter function imo.

Imagine if that was a thing Aye shroomer. Pulling our trailer cool room grows behind us wherever we go. Too funny if it caught on. Little traffic jams of mobile grows down at the cafes.

wouldnt mind something the size of a small bedroom. 3x2 3x3 maybe. Im sure that no matter how big its built it still wont be big enough............just like sheds. Lol.

Ya can see the blue edges of the foam panels in some pics in me diary but probably none of any use.

Think they're actually 65mm thick foil panels. Seen them on ebay 2700 x 1200, 5 mins from home! 2 for $100. They are what spurred me on to build a little room and try growing my own.
