Whilst out on my daily bike ride. In the Perth area yesterday I came to the sad realisation that there were a lot of homeless middle aged men living out of their cars.
Some couples, but mostly young or middle aged men.
Trying to navigate council camping laws etc.
Are we turning into U.s.a.🤔

it's kinda scary isn't it. I have a few mates in that boat currently but It's an odd predicament. I can find all of em a share room in a few minutes but they would rather live on the street. I think people are just sick of the system in general. Just feeling broken. The whole debacle stumps me. I have nothing. No savings, no kids, no life, no job atm but i can find like 20 places to stay in a few minutes which worries me as to why so many people are just shutting down instead of making sacrifices and learning to live in share.

I've been homeless twice and the council had no problems with me camping, I used to talk to the rangers about it all the time and ended up finding a place through one of em. You can book for weeks at a time. I used to just stay at campsites for a few weeks and move to somewhere else every fortnight. The main issue is that most people that are homeless have just shut down, so they generally won't look after the campsite, and anti-social behavior becomes the norm in place of sanity leading to the whole idea that everyone is against homelessness rather than the issues that follow.

Around mine there's tents in most of the parks, feces everywhere, rubbish everywhere, constant violence and police callouts. It's hard because I don't think anyone has an issue with them being homeless, more an issue with the syringes, broken glass and turd everywhere but everyone just deflects when you try bring it up a council meetings so the real issue will never be dealt with.

If people complain enough about the crackpipes and needles the council will move em into 4 star accommodation at taxpayers cost instead of providing real help which is super sad to see. They end up trashing the hotels, getting banned and end up back on the street in a few weeks just highlighting the mental health decay involved.

Yeah same thing happened here. Council put wifi in the showgrounds and lots of homeless starting making little shelters / communities and it seemed to be a good thing. Then the nearby residents started complaining about their 'safety' and fears of being broken into by the homeless? What a fucking joke, so many of those people would probably never hurt anyone, if anything they've been trodden on for most of their lives and had just given up like @VinDeezle mentioned.

So council moved them on and they just ended back up on the park benches in the middle of the town..

yep. Bang on. The real issue is more than just "homelessness". Massive increases of people just feeling like they don't have a place or value in society leads to antisocial personality disorders which solidify their shame and guilt and the circle just continues. It's so hard to get people help in that scenario though. When they have completely shut down there is no silver lining left to chase.

I'd say a lot of this would be less aggressive if people just swallowed their pride and took some of the help available. I've been in all the same places as these people a few times, but after a few weeks it was brutal and it was far easier to just rock up to the mental health ward. There is so many outlets that helped me through it. Free mental health support, fee free tafe courses, many volunteer community groups. I took advantage of all of em all. But these same people that are crying out for help would rather go to jail than take help in a completely funded rehab facility or mental health facility for some reason. "Theres no help anywhere" so you give them the mental health line card and they just throw it in your face and slide in a "fuck those cunts, im not being brainwashed" and then continue to complain about noone helping.

Worked in community services for a few years when I was younger and trying to get people help that didn't want it is almost treated like an assault. It hard to see. All this talk of "no-one wants to help" but when you offer them help its immediately "you don't understand, its not that easy" and they shut off and attack immediately

What's that old saying? You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. Especially if it thinks it's already dead. What do you do with broken people? The issue around here is that break ins, needle and knife attacks and robberies are out of control lately, so the general public has hit that boiling point where they shouldn't have to deal with possibly violent societal decay just so the violent offenders feel a better about themselves. If i did one tenth of the shit some of them around here are doing every day I'd be locked up immediately.

Its a really sticky situation. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

It gets even worse when you find out a lot of em already have government housing nearby, but they've trashed it so they pretend to be homeless, drink at the library, get food and money all day and then head home to their funded apartment.

I had a few blokes down the road that seemed legit a few months ago so i'd pop down with food/toiletries and clean the park up for em but I noticed they disappeared most nights. Ended up finding out they live around the corner and just lie about being hard done by. On full disability, subsidized rent, power and 10-year lease. Place is destroyed and the sympathy card is played. Turns out most of them that gather near the library have full housing.

That kinda changed my tone a bit when you realize most of them are already in access to pensions and housing but choose to be on the streets. It's such a crazy deep subject. It pissed me off, but at the same time it hurt that they were so broken. Even with full pensions, 10 year leases, subsidized power and bills that you still end up in your own filth with nothing to live for. No one chooses to live like that.

That's pretty scummy. See so many videos on YouTube of people exposing the fake homeless too as they try to pull at the heart strings of the elderly.

Dude got in this one woman's face and told the old bloke she was a scamming bitch and she flipped out and ran away from the camera lol. The shit that goes on these days hey..

Yea, its a cunt. Luckily it's still a rare occurrence in contrast to the world of good people around. I've just been going through shit lately, so I've been noticing a lot more struggle and negativity simply due to my mindset. It's crazy how a lot of this hopelessness kinda went by unnoticed until I was feeling the same. Can be overwhelming and can't even imagine what they are feeling.
