I'm not superstitious, but I seem to be having a REALLY, REALLY fucking BAD day!!

I've recently been cleaning-out a few IBC's that I use for my OD grows. Pressure-wash them, fill with dilute vinegar, soak overnight, dump the contents, another pressure-wash & then re-fill with hydro nutes.

Went to dump a couple of them today & the butterfly valve on one sheared-off in my hand. It now just dribbles:

Fix-able, but not until it's completely drained & I can get rid of the offending butterfly valve.

'Discovered that the outlet thread on another (fine thread) has been stripped, so I can't attach the adaptor I got to be able to tap it. No amount of teflon tape will fix this.

To top it all off, I also discovered that I can no longer source spares for almost all of my beer kegs (bullet-proof Aussie-made Mytton-Rodd stuff), so I'm potentially sitting on thousands of $'s-worth of useless stainless steel kegs with negligible scrap-value.

FUUUUCK!!!!!

I'd love a few ibc's out the back for aquaponics. Cut a few plastic drums in half and chuck a bunch of plants in. Stock them with tandanus catfish which are supposed to be great eating.

Hopefully you can track down some spares for your kegs šŸ„ŗ..

@Tunkers @Gazza

This may give you an idea of what I'm looking at:

I've already completely refurbished 5 of my 45l kegs (not shown here), pulled absolutely everything apart, replaced all internal seals in the posts & have enough spares to finish the job on the remainder, but that's IT.

As long as I use them judiciously, I reckon I've got enough to last me as long as my arse points towards the ground. Then it's someone else's problem....

Wrong forum???

An old homebrewing mate had several aquaponics setups using IBC's at his place, but it was mid-winter in central Victoria & nothing was growing at the time & the IBC's were absolutely putrid. He assured us that the fish were still alive, but I kinda had my doubts....

Fish hydrolysate šŸ¤£.

Yeah too much effort, knowing my luck I'd get it up and running and a week later the fish and plants would all be dead from a heatwave.

I had the same problem years ago. I managed to marry new fittings to it with some type of sealing putty I got from local hardware shop. Its surviving still20241213_180007.jpg 6 years later. I can't remember the product name sorry....

I get new mitton rod posts off ebay instead of trying to find rubber kits i just get the whole post

I've already researched this & it's certainly do-able as my last-ditch option. 'Trouble is, I want to refurbish all my Mytton-Rodd kegs with as much original-quality parts as I can & my stash of spares is now dwindling....

If I have to, I'll source stuff from my ex-employer in NZ rather than purchase from the "other" ones over here.

No, I'm not a Kiwi...

Ironic this happened to you on a friday, i was at work on a friday late morning and had a big 1000l tote of copper to spray on the vines and it was probably a bit over 3/4 empty and had it snap, boss sent me home because there wasn't much else to do, enjoyed the rest of the day off cameback monday and he finished the tote off somehow and got rid of it and we were onto the next tote

What a great boss!

Yeah, IBC's aren't meant to last forever & some of mine have been exposed to direct sunlight for a couple of years that makes them brittle. Not a great problem, considering I got them for nothing, just shit timing when I wanted them for the OD grow is all.

I'm already over being cranky & have a few ideas to salvage the situation.
