New to TSE so apologies if there's an existing thread.

Auto potency

I've grown a few different strains and a common result is I'm not getting the potency of photos.

My results often look delicious with frosty coatings, aroma and volume from healthy plants but don't quite pack the desired potency.

Is this something others experience, or am I missing some secret sauce to my grows?

How do you grow.
The media, nutes, lights etc will all play into the outcome.

Good genetics mean nothing if you don’t give the plant the best conditions to grow.

Yeah autos used to be lower in THC than photos but that was a fair few years ago now!! Some Mephisto auto held the thc record for a while if I recall correctly!!
Personally all the autos I have grown have as good as photos!
As the others have said Id go with poor genetics!!

Yeah I do get the lack of genetics thing too.
It’s only got so much potential and if you have dialled in your grow then yes that’ll be a difference maker.

Been listening to some podcasts though and hearing a lot about the entourage effect of all the cannabinoids, not just thc.

Are you just after that big high or are you looking at the whole benefits the plant gives?

Maybe the whole plant effect is missing in autos? 🤷‍♂️
I’m not a plant scientist. But I love the science behind this though.

Thanks guys

Time for a new seed supplier me thinks, I'm going to assume genetics

Grow method is pretty standard
Coco/perlite,
Rain water buffered to 6ph
using canna coco a+b
High thc / low cbd strains
Lights have provided good results with all grows

The fruit looks and smells great but medium potency from autos but good with photos

I like to have variety in the pantry for consumption.

Just noticed consistant low potency from what should be high thc autos tried so far, interestingly all bought from same provider.

I thought exactly the same thing when I 1st started growing auto's but luckily I don't buy seeds from just one place and on my 1st purchase I went for cheap and sweet and that's exactly what I got so I then went to the name brands like Dutch passion, fastbuds, seedstockers(one of my favs) and whitewidow.rocks and now it's game on 🤣👍 but yeah seriously it's the same story as photo plants if it not in the genes well it's not gonna happen for ya and yeah soil and environment do have something to do with it but with good genetics even in half crappy soil will give you better results than shit genetics in great soil..just my opinion..

Me too, I'm enjoying learning about breaking down typologies into more than just 'sativa vs indica'.

I've tried around 10 medical strains now. I've come across 2 strains that don't seem to affect me at all which are still high % thc and lots of glowing reviews from others. I could vape them endlessly back to back for hours.

I've also found 2 that are WAY stronger than expected (hallucinating). I liked them a lot but needed to choose timing carefully.... Upstate Delta One I'm looking at you.

What I'm learning is just how unique each strains effect is per person and might even change (e.g. as you get older, lose weight, feel tired, more or less stressed etc.). OP you might find that you find strains that are more what you're looking for. I like medical for the trial and error, although it's expensive I'm sure your experience of growing a plant for months and it not having the effect you anticipated would be tough.
