Police have busted a significant cannabis operation in Victori, accusing two men of trying to smuggle the crop clear of the fire zone on Christmas Eve.

Officers responded to reports of trucks in the evacuation zone, near Moyston in the Grampians, around 4pm on December 24.

They discovered one of the vehicles abandoned and when they opened the rear doors they found a full load of mature cannabis plants.

A second truck was located parked at an intersection nearby with two men in the cab.

Police said there, they also found the keys to the first truck as well as a quantity of growing mix.

A third truck was tracked down at another nearby location, which also allegedly had a number of cannabis plants inside it.

The three trucks were seized and transported to a safe location until the fire danger passed, and the two men were arrested.

On Christmas Day, police executed a search warrant at a Moyston address, where they found a large quantity of cannabis plants.

A 36-year-old Deer Park man and a 37-year-old Sunshine West man have been charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of narcotic plant, cultivating a narcotic plant and dealing with property suspected of being proceeds of crime.

They are in custody and will face the Ballarat Magistrates’ court on Thursday.

Reminds me of when I had to move from a rental home to one I brought (y) I had to move a grow table half way through bud :poop: it was in the last load of my stuff, in the back of the hire truck.

Man I was shitting myself and packing darkies so bad, but it made it there, I needed 3 mates to help lift it into the truck :ROFLMAO::cool:

I had Brass Ball's that day! The things I do for my Ladies 😁

A few years back, my mate got caught due to the CFA in the Huon Valley. Old mate has health issues and was a prominent med cannabis campaigner. Cops knew he grew, but they also know his health and that he doesn't sell, so they left him alone. If they had to visit, they called ahead and stopped at the gates. All in all, quite reasonable.

But, a CFA asshole went on to his property during an bush fire emergency, saw no fire but did see the garden. Reported it and the cops had no choice, forced their hand. As a result, popular old man had numerous court dates and many people in that area don't trust the CFA anymore. Everybody loses.
